STRATEGIES FOR REVIEW BUILDING

STRATEGY 1. PUT A “REVIEW US ON GOOGLE” BUTTON ON YOUR SITE
On Google+ Local, you’ll generally find a blue “Write a Review” button associated with a
business name, as shown below. Customers simply click that button to provide feedback about
your products and services.
It’s also important that your website have a similar “Review Us On Google” button because the
more reviews received, the higher you will rank in the search engine results. Positive reviews
also help customers to see you as an expert in your field and someone they can trust.

When customers tell you how much they love your company, thank them and then ask them to
go to your website and put it in writing by clicking on the “Review Us On Google” button. The
comments will go straight to your Google+ Local Page and then other folks can learn the value
of your products and services.
STRATEGY 2. HAND OUT MATERIALS WITH QR CODES
Handing out printed materials with QR codes, such as those shown below, will also improve
your chances of getting a written review. Consider business cards, flyers, note pads, counter
cards, coasters, window clings, door hangers or whatever works best for your situation.
Customers will see these unique items with a QR code and want to know more. Scanning the
QR Code with a smart phone, iPad or other mobile device will link them directly to your
Google+ Local page where they can learn more about your company and write a review
whenever it’s convenient for them.

STRATEGY 3. SEND CUSTOMERS A REVIEW US EMAIL
If possible, have an automated system that will email your customers after their first visit to ask
them to review you on Google. Keep a checklist of customers that have reviewed you and
consistently ask them for reviews each time they use your product or service.
It’s perfectly fine to use email templates such as the one shown here, and always include a link to your Google Local Page.
Another option is to include the Google link on invoices, receipts, packing slips or other
documentation you regularly send to your customers.
If you consistently offer these easy options to customers, you will eventually get a large number
of reviews and improved exposure for your company.
TIP #1: AIM FOR A CERTAIN NUMBER OF REVIEWS EACH
Try to determine how many reviews you can reasonably get over one year, then divide that
number by 12 and work to get that number of reviews each month. It’s better to have a set goal
in mind than to get either no reviews or more than you can successfully review for information.
TIP #2: ACCUMULATE REVIEWS CONSISTENTLY. DO NOT GET
10 REVIEWS IN ONE DAY. GOOGLE WANTS PEOPLE NATURALLY

The goal is to make the review process a natural thing that customers want to do rather than
trying to force them to evaluate you. Offering customers the opportunity to provide feedback
consistently each month will work out well in the long run. It will also prevent Google from
classifying the feedback as spam in the search results.
TIP #3: GET REVIEWS FROM VARIOUS IP ADDRESSES
Getting reviews from the same location over and over can look “spammy” to Google because it
tracks IP addresses. To avoid raising Google’s red flag, have customers submit reviews from
various devices such as smart phones, tablets, and work computers. Again, Google wants
people creating reviews because they like your product or service, and Google equates this
“natural” action with multiple IP addresses.
TIP #4: ASK CUSTOMERS FOR REVIEWS IN PERSON
If you visit a customer at their home or office, ask them to review you while you’re there. This
meets Google’s criteria of getting a natural review from a different IP address/location.
TIP #5: PROVIDE STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS IF NEEDED

see them as spam. Getting multiple reviews on multiple sites is one of the best ways to do this.
In addition, it means customers can find these reviews all over the web, not just on Google.
TIP #9: NEVER STOP THIS PROCESS
This is an on-going process for both new and existing customers, not something that is done
just once. Having old, out-of-date reviews can be just as damaging as having no reviews.
Potential customers want to know that you are a thriving business that continues to offer good
service that people want to talk about, and Google wants consistent, timely information for
