Who’s Mad

view website: WhosMad.com

The client came to us wanting to start a social networking website where people could complain, spread gossip, and vote all on one site. WhosMad.com is a custom social networking website, and it was developed using the full WebBiz Development Process. The talented team at WebBiz took this idea from start to finish, developing the architecture, graphics, coding, admin area, and hosting.

Our consultants first worked with the client to tighten up his idea with informational architecture. Once the idea was fully developed and the website architecture was set, our graphic designers created the logo and graphic interface. While the GUI was being made, our coders created the structure for everything to stand on.

Homepage Content Manager

We created a content management system where the admin can control everything on the website, including the most important part, the homepage. The admin can upload a video to the top section or pick one from all the videos uploaded to the website from a secure online administration area. The admin can even select what complaint categories he wants on the homepage, and the system will automatically populate the categories with complaints or gossip within that category. We did this so the client could keep the site looking fresh. As long as he drives traffic to the site, the homepage rotates on refreshes.

Voicemail Integration

The entire website was built around allowing people to get things off their chest and complaining. When someone submits a complaint, they can enter someone’s email or phone number. The system will send them a notice that they have a complaint, and they need to defend themselves. A unique feature of this site is that we integrated the system with voicemail. If a phone number is entered into the system, it will automatically call that person and leave them a voicemail with a file number and message to come onto whosmad.com and submit their side of the story.

Planned Website Architecture

Whenever we make a custom social networking website, we will always plan out the site first. (This ensures we develop the website correctly the first time, every time.) We worked with the client to develop his idea and wireframe (website blueprint) the entire site before it went to our coders, including all pages, link clicks, and interactions. The client saw a prototype before we started coding and approved it. This process is just like when you build a new house. You need to have an architect draft up the blueprints before you give it to a builder. Any custom-made website should always go through this process.

Supporting Evidence

All complaints posted on the website have supporting evidence. When someone submits a complaint, they can add supporting evidence to the website proving their argument is correct. The users can upload videos, pictures, and documents for everyone to read. Once both sides have uploaded their evidence, the community can vote for the winner. After the winner is selected, the user can upload a victory dance video as a celebration. If they don’t upload one a victory dance is supplied.

Custom Profile Designer

We created an extremely easy to use profile design for this website. After doing research on different profile designs we found a blended method would work best for this site, allowing for user originality but keeping the look and feel organized. (One of Myspace.com’s biggest criticisms was that it looked too messy.) We developed a modular system that allows users to click an edit button above each module. They can pick from different colors, upload images, change fonts, or edit the content in the module. This allowed people to edit their profile to make it their style, but not making it appear messy and discouraging users from using the rest of the website.

Polls With Videos And Images

Whosmad.com polls are unique because they allow users to add videos and images to the polls. This allows the community to see a video or image and vote on it, and it adds a whole new dimension to gathering statistics on a website.
