Rivalry Rage

Planning Rivalry Rage With Website Architecture
When the client first came to WebBizIdeas all he had was an idea for a trash talking social network. We worked with him to plan out a unique website that will keep members coming back. First we laid out a full website prototype before any of the coders started. This “Website Blueprint” gave us a clear direction so we could create the website correctly the first time. When the architecture was done we had a full business model and delivered a flat rate quote and timeline to the client.
Rivalry Pages
Rivalry pages are where all the trash talking happens. Each team has its own team page but when someone starts a rivalry with another team it will make a rivalry page. Members from both sides can trash talk, upload pictures, chat, and add videos to each other’s page. A simple tab system keeps the teams separate but also allows easy navigation back and forth.
Chat Rooms
Each of the team and rivalry pages has its own chat room. We wanted users to be on the website talking trash when games are going on. Users can even click on an individual member and start a private chat if they want. The best part about this feature is we kept the clients initial costs low by using a third party script to. As the website continues to grow , we will expand the feature and create a custom application around the user’s feedback.
Rivalry Rage Logo
The client came to us with a logo idea but didn’t have anything nailed down. After we figured out his social media identity, we created the fist shaking face showing the intensity anyone feels in a heated rivalry. The devils tail was an afterthought, but it helps solidify trash talking brand. (Can be seen in the video above.)

Rivalry Rage Identity
Rivalry Rage needed to have an aggressive identity since it was all about trash talking. This caused us to go with the red and black accent colors. We then kept the main body of the website white to give the website a clean simple feeling.
Points System
On each members profile page the system will display how many points they’ve earned for each of their favorite teams. Rivalry Rage has a points system built into it to keep members active and posting more content. The more topics posted, videos uploaded, and photos added to rivalry pages the more points you get. At the end of each month a winner will be selected and that team’s logo will be displayed on the rivalry page. Obviously this doesn’t sit well if you’re a Yankees fan and on the Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees rivalry page there is a huge Red Sox logo taunting you.
Admin – Banner Management
To drive revenue on Rivalry Rage we created a custom banner management system. The more targeted you can make a banner, the more an owner can charge for impressions and clicks. The admin area gives the owner control of what page, category, age, and gender he wants his banners to appear. This way if Nike has a women’s running shoe for women over 40, the banner manager system will allow the client to pick that demographic and pick what pages that demographic is active on his website. This ability will allow him to charge more money for advertising and drive dollars into his pocket faster.
Admin – Sports Data Upload
Since the website needed to be expandable, we created a mass upload feature for sports teams. The system admin can update an excel document with team name, URL’s, meta tags (for SEO), and H1 tags. Once the system admin updates the excel document, he simply can upload it to the “backend”. The website will then automatically populate with all newly added teams.

Starting A Rivalry
The website needed a call to action for people not signed up yet, so we inserted the start a rivalry button on the homepage. When a user clicks it, they will be walked through the process of finding a favorite team and how to add rivals to it. Once they’re done with this process, the system prompts them to login or register. We made sure to save this session on the user’s computer to ensure that once they’re done registering, the favorite team and rivals are automatically saved (no matter what they do).
Video and Photo Uploads
Besides uploading photos and videos to a rivalry page users can upload and share photos/videos on their personal pages. They don’t need to associate them with any team which creates another medium of social activity. All pictures and videos have a “pound it” link which is the equivalent of a thumbs up/like on facebook or digg. We called it a “pound” because the target market of this site often do a fist pound/bump to celebrate or acknowledge something good. (A fist pound/bump is like a high five but you bump your fists together.)
Multiple Administrators
Since the client needs multiple people to run this website effectively (moderators), he needed the ability to add new administrators and customize their security access. We created a dynamic administrative area that gives the “Super Admin” the ability to make a new admin and set what permissions he/she will have. This security feature has enabled Rivalry Rage to be fully scalable from a staffing standpoint.
