You can create your home page in many different ways. It should have a menu for the other main pages of your site - you can place this menu at the top, left or bottom side of the home page. However, your company name should be at the top of the page. If your company has a logo, don't forget to place that logo on the top of the home page (also on the other pages).

Adding relevant pictures to the page is a nice touch, as people love to see pictures, especially if the pictures have something to do with your site. However, don't place too many pictures. They might distract the people from the more important things on your site.

Select Your Site Color And Font Wisely

Colors are very important for your website design and you should choose your site colors wisely. Color has the power of attracting people or turning them off. If your site color is boring, people will also think that your site is boring. It's not fair, but that's how it is. Color should be selected according to the subject of the site. For example, if your site is about online toys for children, you have to choose bright and dazzling colors. Choose color depending on the mood of your site.

Online reading is different from reading from printed material. Therefore, choosing right font size, style and color is also important. Try using Verdana or Arial as font style, keep size 10 to 12 and color black. However, font color depends on the color of your page background. If your background is dark, you should use light colored font; otherwise you can use dark colored font. However, don't change the font often; readers get irritated if different fonts are used for different page. So keep them consistent.

Provide Smooth Navigation

Providing smooth and flawless navigation is another important factor; all the pages of your site should be linked to the Home page as well as other main pages. Visitors feel comfortable inside the pages of your side if they find a link to the home page inside the current page. If they can't find a way to go back to the main page, they will get lost and feel like moving on to another website.

Content

Content is one of the important thing when it comes to website design. People come on the Internet in search of relevant content. If you don't provide good and valuable content to the readers, they will lose interest from your site will not come back.

Your homepage should have all necessary information about your company, products and services; then they can have detailed specific information in the specific pages that are linked from the home page. Your content should say why people need to go through your website and why your site is worthwhile.
